The Reluctance of Buying Gifts

I would just like to point out to the few people that are reluctant of buying gifts for others. They think in their heads, 'oh, but what if someone else gets the same gift for them?'. I say, 'valid point, of course.' But, isn't there always a risk of double-gifting, or overlapping, or whatever you choose to call it? I have recently had this issue and learned to overcome it.

'Take a gamble, my friends', is what I say. If you never buy anyone in your life a gift, or even make them one because of course spending money is not always the best thing to do, but if you never do something like that for them only because you are afraid of someone else doing the same thing, then you'll never do anything. If you have a fear of that happening with a gift, why not with a shirt? Why could someone else not buy the same shirt as you and you be worried? Why could someone else read the same book as you and you be embarrassed? What I am trying to say, is that you cannot, should not, let another person's might-be actions stand in the way of the small choices in your life.

Now, does everyone understand this concept? Stop letting the small choices of others affect your personal decisions in your life. If you are planning with a family member or friend and you have talked about getting the same person the same present, then coordinate with them so that that does not happen! There are ways to conquer or avoid this problem. You can:

  • coordinate
  • plan
  • discuss
  • consider
  • take a chance on a unique gift that you think no one else will think of
  • or, ignore what might happen, and go for what you think that the recipient will love!

I hope that this little post helped people to get over this trivial worry. Just take a chance, because if you can't take one on buying a gift what can you venture to do?
